panerai: Ressence Makes a Diver’s Watch That is Classy

It’s rare to come by a diver’s watch that is both elegant in design, as well as incredibly practical for its purpose. One major design problem for the everyday user is that a diver’s watch tends to sacrifice slim, refined designs, for functionality. Thankfully, the Ressence Type 5 Watch changes all that. A slimmer-than-normal design, the Type 5 Watch is the first mechanical diver’s watch to not only look amazingly classy (taking inspiration from the Type 3 predecessor), but to be able to be perfectly read underwater regardless of the viewing angle. Made from 324 components, the complete ROC 5 (142 of those components) is immersed in exactly 37.5 ml of oil, which cancels out the Total Internal Reflection (i.e. no mirror reflection under water), which allows for complete legibility from any angle viewing point. This also allows a slimmer watch design, as there is no need for a heavy over-sized case and thick glasses. The watch meets the ISO 6425 standards and is able to withstand the most extreme conditions, while still being able to be worn with a suit. Of course, no diver’s watch comes without a bezel, the Type 5 having a seamlessly integrated uni-directional one instead of a notched bezel. The Ressence Type 5 essentially is a lighter, more elegant and more ergonomic diver’s watch compared to those out there today.
